We’re on the road again!
The map on the top left will give you an idea of our overall trip plans to Virginia. The map on the right is of where we went today. You may be wondering why we are taking a summer trip in the warmer states. Good question!
Jorge’s mom (100 years old) and dad (90 years old) moved in with brother Art and family near San Antonio, Texas. So, we are going to see our well-seasoned loved ones. Then we will head northeast toward Winchester, Virginia. We’ll try to avoid major roads.
Today we stopped by a 72 foot high Wire Cathedral located in Coachella, California. Originally built for the 2018 Coachella festival, it moved here permanently the following year. People like to walk inside and stare up at the sky during the day; at night it's lit with glowing LEDs.
In Quartzsite, Arizona we stopped by to see Joanne’s Gum Gallery. Eva, Joanne’s granddaughter, is now the owner and gave us a tour. Joanne, now 90 years old, is retired. Eva says that the gum wrapper collecting started in the early 1940’s as something a little girl from a poor family to do. It is still a growing collection.
Included are gum wrappers from many countries around the world. There’s even a risqué section. You have to visit to see that particular set since it’s not pictured here.
