We dropped our dog, Tickle, at the kennel to visit her doggy friends for a few days. Bow-wow! And we were ready to roll to Monterey, California. We took U.S. Route 101. If you ever wondered about the climate in California, well…take a look at some of our pictures. Yes, it really is that lovely almost all year round.
We have had droughts but this year Cachuma Lake was completely full. It was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1953. Along the road we saw some enormous art work credited to John Cerney. We only got a few pictures to show here.
Along the way we saw what may have been hundreds of iconic El Camino Real Bells. It seemed as if we saw one every mile - both ways! These guide posts serve as markers for the path connecting 21 Spanish missions. It’s a way to celebrate pioneer history although folklore tells that it was developed by clever real estate developer in 1906 to sell land and homes. What’s the truth?!?🧐
We mostly spent the next day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There were some giant whales hanging from the ceiling. The only way to really appreciate them was by stitching several photos together to see a panoramic shot. We both fell in love with the otter exhibit. They were so cute, lovable, playful and nimble! We’d take one home if we could figure out how to keep it happy and alive. Our dog, Tickle, would definitely adore one.
Some of these exhibits were very large. It made us wonder if the place wasn’t bigger on the inside than the outside. We highly recommend visiting this aquarium.
On the way home we took a picture of California’s first motel inn. It’s under repair. We had lunch in Pismo Beach and heading home. It was a good trip!
