There are always lots of neat places and museums to visit in the United States of America. It’s an embarrassment of riches. So, it’s alway nice when we spot a unique item from the road. Check that picture of a miniature replica of the Washington Monument. It is a cell tower!

Again, we want to see every museum on the way but time is not our friend. Today we chose to see the War Memorial and Old Capitol Building in Jackson, MS. We found memorial sculptures of WWI doughboys in the building next to the Old Capitol Building. Otherwise, it was closed but the Old Capitol Building was opened.

It served as the Mississippi statehouse from 1839 to 1903. This old building earned a place in the National Register of Historical Places in 1969. This building is a historical landmark.

Afterwards we drove to Monroe LA in search of the grave of a married man, Sidney Saunders. It was a rainy day so the trees hung heavily over the statue. The story behind the statue: Gossips in town whispered that Annie Livingston never married him. What horror!

She placed a marble statue atop Sidney’s burial vault holding a copy of their marriage certificate as proof that they were actually married. Annie placed the statue facing downtown, toward the naysayers’ homes where he could stare at them for eternity.

Did we mention that it was rainy? Well, it really was.pouring non-stop with lightning and thunder. That last picture you see on the last slide show is that of the view from our windshield for a good half-hour before reaching out hotel. Jorge is using that picture as a desktop photo on his Mac.
