We docked by Grand Rivers KY in the morning. The town is located at the north end of both Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake and north of the Barkley Canal. The land between the lakes stretches for two miles.
The Cumberland River empties into Barkley Lake. The Tennessee River spills its water into Kentucky Lake. The Barkley Canal connects the lakes. From Kentucky Lake the water flows into the Ohio River. The town provided free golf cart rides to and from town.
After breakfast we visited Patti’s 1880 Settlement. Originally, it had been a hotel/restaurant. The food was so good that it kept expanding the restaurant area and eventually the hotel closed. However, their website indicates that in 1999 Patti’s added 58 rooms at Patti’s Inn & Suites. It is at a different location.
Patti’s Restaurant opened what it calls its settlement area. It features a 19 hole mini-golf course and gold panning. There’s a garden with statues and it is all very tranquil.
If you are into moonshine, there’s a place for you! Of course, you do have to pay for your adult beverage sample. It is one of their many onsite boutiques.
After lunch we took Living on the Wildlife Side tour. It featured a visit to the Woodlands Nature Station in Cadiz County Kentucky. The animals kept here have been hurt in some way so that they cannot return to the wild. Here they are safe and kept for viewing too. So, what we have here is a mini-zoo.
We also visited the Elk and Bison Prairie. It’s our understanding that bison and elk are native to the area. Unfortunately, we got skunked and didn’t see anything but a few wild turkeys. It was a hot and humid day so the animals were smart to stay hidden in the cool woods.
