First thing on our agenda was to take a leisurely horse and buggy ride around the small town of Grand Rivers. It’s a husband and wife team that runs the Grand Rivers Horse-Drawn Carriage. Each of them had a small dog sitting next to its master.

The American Symphony did not cruise to Paducah KY. Captain Suarez announced over the intercome that the lock was heavily traveled at the time he feared that we wouldn’t be able to get to arrive in Nashville, TN the following day. Today we rode the bus.

Since we’ve been to the National Quilt Museum twice before, we decided to skip it this time. Our first stop was at the Civil War Museum and Tilghman House. It told more about the South than the North.

Next was the Paducah Railroad Museum. You could say that it is a work in progress. There wasn’t much to see but there was a train simulator operating and it was a hit. We couldn’t get in it because of the long line. It would have been a treat to drive a train!

However, Ellen got to the drive a boat simulator at the River Discovery Center. It must be reported that she did not hit land, another vessel, nor sink the ship. She did well!

The museum covered every kind of water craft it could in miniature. The riverboats were the best. Riverboats could push from one to sixteen barges! Take a look at that picture of a barge going upriver. Upstairs we found a few elegantly decorated rooms to the period of the great paddle wheel era.
