Day 3 ~ May 2
Sunday
To
Baton Rouge LA
The hotels have not yet gone back to providing a hot breakfast buffet for guests. Sometimes they’ll give you a ‘grab bag’ of stuff. Not yummy. So, this morning we went to iHop. Not bad!
We headed westward on country roads toward Interstate 85. Along the way we spotted a red caboose in Covington GA. Those country roads are a pleasure to drive. However, it wasn’t long before the police re-routed everyone going west. We don’t know why but we had to find another route. Thank goodness for GPS gadgets.
We passed a few small towns. One appeared to be having a Sunday Farmer’s market event. We couldn’t tell you the name of the place.
Today’s drive took us from Georgia through Alabama, Mississippi and into Louisiana. It was a long ride. All along we expected rain and finally got it when we neared Mobile AL. We have a new weather app and love it. Try it out at windy.com.
We witnessed several traffic jams today. Fortunately, they were all on the other side of the road. Actually, it is a wonder that there are not more accidents. Some of these drivers think they own the highway. They speedily weave through traffic, tailgate other vehicles in an effort to intimidate them and sometimes even honk their horns indignantly demanding the right of way.
In Covington LA we stopped to admire a ten foot statue of President Ronald Reagan. The boast is that it is the tallest statue in the world of ‘the Gipper.’ It’s located in the Tammy Trace Trailhead Park. Finally, we are happy to be resting in our hotel!
