Today’s trip proved to be a long drive to visit The Shiprock in New Mexico. At first we planned on going through Winslow AZ, Holbrook AZ and then heading north past Gallup NM. However, not meaning to sound jaded, we’ve been through them before. So we chose to head north after Flagstaff AZ to go through Tuba City AZ.
The route would take a bit longer but not by much and it would take us off Interstate 40 and into new territory. So, except for visiting Seligman AZ for gasoline, we took the new path.
Just before arriving in Flagstaff we got a good view of Humphreys Peak. After Flagstaff we saw the other side of that peak. It’s so beautiful.
We dined in Tuba City and pledged that we would come back to visit their Code Talkers Museum and the Navajo Interactive Museum. If we wanted to visit The Shiprock before sunset we had to make haste. So, today you’ll see many pictures from the road.
The landscape seemed to change after going over every hill and turn…and the colors! We plan on coming this way again.
As for The Shiprock, it was big and fabulous. We could have gotten closer by walking. We took zoom pictures from where we stood.
