Today we had a shorter ride which afforded us the luxury of sight seeing and taking pictures of interesting places. The Steampunk Yard Art became a big hit with us. We just wondered what the neighbors thought? Nearby we took Tickle on a walk to see Stonehenge Jr. at a local park.

The Needle in a Haystack is a typical drive-by (shoot your camera) landmark. The Norman #1 Oil Well Museum was closed so it became a drive-by too. Drilled on November 28, 1892 it was the first successful well kicking off a major oil boom.

Big Brutus was something else to see. First of all, it is out in the middle of nowhere and sticks out like a sore thumb. There is a nice visitor center. There are other large shovels there but Big Brutus takes the cake. Click here to take a video tour.

Red Oak II implies that there was a Red Oak I. The original had been moved to a new location and it required a new name. We spoke to the current owner who stopped to greet us. She informed us that the founder, Lowell Davis, has sold all the buildings on it. Those people pictured are tourists from New Zealand and Australia.

Finally we entered the History Museum in Springfield MO. We played gunslinger and Ellen won. However, her favorite interactive game was a time machine with a big wheel and a button for navigation. She needs more practice time to get it right. What a great day!
