In 1924 there was a 351-foot-tall obelisk built at the Jefferson Davis State Park. It looks like the Washington Monument (555 feet tall) but its color is gray. Also, both of them have elevators to the top. Currently, the Jefferson elevator is down for service. It is the tallest unreinforced (no steel whatsoever) concrete structure in the world. That makes it the tallest concrete obelisk in the world.
We did notice several Amish going to church in their buggies. It made Jorge wonder whether there were people like that in the ancient world of Sumaria. “No honey, we don’t use horses…we walk!” History has no records of such lost people.
The Aviation Heritage Park website features a very nice camera drone flyover of the six flying machines on exhibit. The hope is to build a museum someday in Bowling Green KY.
The town now features the National Corvette Museum. The cars on exhibit are beautiful! However, we found the broken, dirty ones of great interest too. On February 12, 2014 a large sinkhole broke open under some of the exhibits and the cars fell in. Fortunately, they chose to rebuild on the same site and then leave the salvaged cars just as they were. Smart marketing!
We’ve been spoiled by going to various cave or cavern sites throughout the country. We had high expectations for Mammoth Cave National Park. Various tours are offered. We chose to take the Frozen Niagara one. We were a bit underwhelmed. Needless to say, next time we’ll take a different tour.
