When we change drivers we prefer to stop at a filling station to use the bathrooms. We can usually count on good coffee too. A Travel Centers of America (TA) station honored Davy Crockett with a big statue. Ellen had to have her picture with the hero.
We headed to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville hoping to see the McClung Museum of Natural History. However, the website gave us the wrong GPS coordinates. Calling the place for directions did not help. We got skunked!
So we headed to see the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Yes, everyone has probably heard the song and, yes, there is such a train. The train is located behind the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel. In the front of the hotel there is a trolley bus available for local tours. Wish we had more time.
Next, we headed to Sam’s Tree House located in Calhoun, Georgia. According to Roadside America it was “Owned, built, and lived in by Sam Edwards, former aide to President Jimmy Carter. Sam has proved that anything can be dragged into a tree and lived in, including an airplane, a helicopter, and a submarine from an Elvis Presley movie.”
We found the tree house behind a local Mexican restaurant. It appears abandoned and ready to fall apart. Nothing lasts forever, don’t you know?
The weather warmed up today and the trip was pleasant but we got a reminder at the end that we need to drive with safety in mind first. Check out that Traffic Accident!
