Tomatoes are the name of the game in Jacksonville, Texas. It is known as the undisputed Tomato Capital of the World and a tomato fest is held each June. It attracts thousands of visitors. In 2012 a Concrete Tomatoes community art project sought businesses to sponsor and decorate 665 lb. concrete tomato sculptures. We found a few in need of upkeep. There are about 75 of these placed around town!

Again, driving through Texas 2-lane roads, we marveled at the speed limits of 75mph!

We actually saw two giant cranes today and got a picture of one. It really does not show how huge they are.

NOAA and various apps reported that the weather would be bad with lots of snow, sleet, and ice. We figured that’s why the roads were pretty empty. We did not complain especially when it didn’t snow. It was just cold.

The Fort Parker Raid of May 19, 1836 was a massacre of Texan colonists by Comanche, Wichita, Caddo and Kiowa native Americans. Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped, at the age of nine,  and spent most of her life with the Comanche Indians.

Thirty-three years later she was captured by the Texas Rangers in the Pease River Massacre. She was taken back to her biological family but refused to adjust to white society, She mourned for her Comanche family. She escaped once but was recaptured. She died in 1871.

We all weave our ways through life. We pray yours  is a happy one!
