Day 10

Wednesday 9/12

Springfield IL to

Columbus OH

Naturally, we didn’t take the direct road home because of a few drive-by pictures we needed to take. Remember of the picture big covered wagon we took on day seven? Well, when it comes to size, we found a building that dwarfs it. The structure we found was the Longaberger picnic basket! It is seven stories tall, 180,000 square feet and beautifully interesting.

Then we hit the Alan Conttrill Sculpture Gallery and Studio. We expected to see some statues on the sidewalk and we did. Many were huge. Then, of course, we had to enter the gallery and take a look.

The downstairs is an active studio. People are working to make sculptures of every kind. There is a 26 step process they use to get to the final bronze statue. Very, very interesting.

You’ll see photos with the statues at various stages of construction. Upstairs is the gallery. Wow, the art, the detail, the magnificence! Alas, we couldn’t take a photo of everything. It was too much. So you will have to go and visit yourself.

In Wheeling WV we photographed Bobo the Metal Elephant and another Madonna of the Trail. There’s a map picture here that shows where all the Madonnas are placed.

Hey, can you see the West Virginians at rest on their front porch? What a great trip we had!
