Day 8

Monday 9/10

Cameron MO to

Springfield IL

JC Penny has a Library/Museum in Hamilton MO. It was not opened. Many museums close on Mondays. The town does have lovely murals and is known for quilting. Chillicothe MO is known as the town where sliced bread was invented. Who knew it had to be invented?

Check out that photo of a play area on the small lake by the road. Makes one wish to be young again.

As we approached the Walt Disney Hometown Museum we saw a large repair truck convert from tires used on the road to RR wheels. They drove it unto the track, lowered the track wheels and off they went.

Since it was Monday the museum was closed but we got a look at the front garden. While looking for Mark Twain’s statue we did one of our favorite things. We got lost and wound up seeing the Mississippi River from a different perspective other than from seeing it from a bridge. Check out that Mississippi palm tree.

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn have their statue in Hannibal MO. Not far is the Mark Twain Museum. Now we both desire to re-read those old books: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. We should always stay young at heart.
