Today’s trip was long and hot but we held up pretty well. Due to the length of the trip we planned on visiting just two museums. The first was the Lost City Museum located in Overton, Nevada. Originally, it was named the Boulder Dam Park Museum because the pre-historic, archeological finds came from the flooding that created Lake Meade.  The museum was operated by the National Park Service until it turned the park over to the state of Nevada in the 1950’s. That’s when it changed its name to what it is today.

The museum includes three small galleries, a screening room, a research library, and a museum store. Outdoor exhibits include a Native American pit house and a reconstructed pueblos. It was nice!

Between Mesquite NV and St. George UT there is the Virgin River Pass located in a gorge mostly situated on the Nevada side. From Nevada it is a downhill ride. We only wish there were places to stop and see the scenery. At first it looks as if we’re driving into a mountainside and then the pass reveals itself. Pretty neat!

Half-way up the state of Utah there was a wildfire raging. You’ll see it in a few of our pictures. Fortunately, our drive took us past it on the western side (the wind blew the smoke eastward).

The Fremont Indian State Park and Museum is located in Sevier County, Utah. We did the usual tour inside the museum and you’ll see some pictures of it. However, we thought that the best parts were the outside trails.

Due to the heat we only did one but it was fabulous. We got to see many petroglyphs!

Nearby we found a memorial to Jedediah Smith…a true hero and mountain man. He lived only to be 32 years old but blazed a historic legend back in the early 19th century.
