Some time ago we visited the Andy Griffith Show Museum in Mt. Airy NC. So it’s natural that we would drive to Morgantown WV to see the statue of Don Knotts. According to Wikipedia, “In 1960, Andy Griffith was offered the opportunity to headline his own sitcom, The Andy Griffith Show (1960–1968). Knotts took the role of Barney Fife, the deputy—and originally cousin—of Sheriff Andy Taylor (portrayed by Griffith). Knotts’ portrayal of the deputy on the popular show earned him five Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Comedy.”
Next we went to the Allegany Museum in Cumberland MD. It is a private, non-profit volunteer organization. The first floor features items that refer to the historical growth of transportation in the area. It goes back to when native Americans used walking trails.
Upstairs there were dedicated rooms to companies that are no longer active but created useful items of historical consequence. Think of tires for automobiles…or expensive glassware…or armaments.
In May of 2022 Allegany High School was torn down. There is a room in the museum in honor of its history. In the center of the room is a large Lego replica of the school. It has been another great day for us and we are home in Winchester VA!
