The road from Roanoke VA to Charlotte NC is not long. That means we could have a late breakfast and spend lots of time looking for places to visit.

Eng and Chang Bunker are buried near Mount Airy NC. They were very successful Siamese twins with lots of children and grandchildren. They proved that anyone can make it in America!

We drove to see a 10-foot metal man painted on both sides. At one time he had an arm that waved. Over the years, through rust and time, the elbow wore off. It was screwed back on in a very awkward way.

Then we visited the Brick Sculptures in the town of Mount Airy NC. We have a few of them pictured here along with information about why they were created.

The town of Mount Airy pretends to be the fictional town of Mayberry NC. It is quite the tourist trap but very wholesome as television shows were in the 1950’s, especially the Andy Griffith Show.

Love Valley NC is an interesting horse town. It pretends to be out in the wild, wild West but is in North Carolina. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the main street. Horses are! Today however, no one was around. We guess that it is a seasonal town, although, there are homes, cars and people just outside.

In Charlotte NC we stopped to see a fantastic Produce Clock. It goes around its face once a year always pointing to the produce that is in season. Very educational!

Just to the left you’ll see Jorge playing a tone at the town’s Musical Garage. It’s not music but different tones can be elicited by touching them.

We never found elephant trainer John King’s burial site. We tried and tried. He is famous for being squished to death by an elephant. He wasn’t the only one that elephant killed!
