It started out a little cloudy today but then out came the sun. It was beautiful.

We headed to see the Smilin’ Steel Wheel Man made of lots of wheel rims. Very cute!

Then we drove to see the Wedding Oak. Reportedly, it has been used for centuries as a spot to get married. We think that we saw it once before but here it is anyway.

The remarkable speed limits in Texas are famous throughout the world. Our path took us on several narrow two-lane roads at the posted speed limit of 75 mph! Wow!

Mostly, we were out in the middle of ‘nowhere.’ Finding a place to eat lunch did not happen. We had to dig into our stash of food to not starve. Also, finding a gasoline station was tough. We finally got to one in Miles TX across the street from where we found the Frankenburrus Cowboy Sculpture.

This waving metal cowboy statue was created by the owner of Burrus Custom Trailers. The company takes pride in its welding abilities.

Next up was a park bordering the Conchos River in San Angelo TX where we sought a statue of a mermaid in the water. It’s a pleasant place to stroll and spend a Saturday in the park.

Before heading for our hotel we passed by the George W. Bush childhood home. They give tours until 4:00 p.m. but we arrived thirty minutes late. Maybe next time!
