It began to rain on our trip today. Fortunately, it did not stop us from sightseeing. We stopped to take a picture of a water tower painted as a baseball. We may have seen this before but here it is!

The idea of visiting a taxidermy museum did not sit well with Ellen but Jorge insisted on going. She is now the museum’s biggest fan. It’s called the Museum of York County in Rock Hill SC.

There was nothing gruesome about it. Many of the animals were presented in their own habitats as in a natural history museum.. Even the lion kill presentation wasn’t too bad. There were many more animals to see than we could present here.

There was an ice age animals section too. Those animals were big! The museum offers an interactive section where docents can assist visitors in a lab setting. There’s an elementary school across the street. We bet that there are many field trips coming to this museum. We highly recommend it!

The town of Aiken SC offers a nice area for dining. It is cute and inviting. It was here that we found the 1939 Police Station Archway. It is the only remaining part of that station.

Next, we headed to the Laurel and Hardy Museum in Harlem GA. It’s the birthplace of Oliver Norvell Hardy (the bigger fellow). He lived from 1892 to 1957. Stan Laurel (1890–1965) was born in Ulverston, Lancashire, England.

According to Wikipedia, they started their career as a duo in the silent film era. They later successfully transitioned to "talkies". From the late 1920s to the mid-1950s, they were internationally famous for their slapstick comedy, with Laurel playing the clumsy, childlike friend to Hardy's pompous bully. This is a small but ‘must go to’ museum!

We wanted to see the Uncle Remus Museum in Eatonton GA but it closed at 4:00 p.m. before we could make it. The Augusta Canal Discovery Center was on the list too. We chose to see Laurel and Hardy instead. So, there will still be more places to visit.

Before arriving at our hotel we did try to squeeze in a visit to the Hamlin Hills Farm in Forsyth GA. The establishment claims to have a crashed crop-duster and the cleanest outhouse! We arrived 15 minutes before closing time. Alas, they went home early, probably due to the rain. Next time!
