The University of Illinois, in Urbana, decided that the campus needed a full-size wooly mammoth and it got it! People thought that it would be an opportunity to show what life was like 30,000 years ago in Urbana. Factoid: The wooly mammoth is the largest land animal to live since the dinosaurs!
If you go to the Temple Plaza in Danville IL, you’ll find a Brick People Sculpture. The bricks were placed first. Then Texas-based artist Donna Dobberfuhl chipped away at them to create what we see today. She did it to express the lively, personable people that she encountered in Danville,
Today’s drive was a long one. No Museums! Why? Most are closed on Mondays. We also passed from Central Time to Eastern Time and lost an hour on the clock.
We drove on to find a giant, car-sized sneaker in New Castle IN. From looking at previous photos it seems that the shoe is re-painted in different colors every once-in-awhile.
Before heading for our hotel we chose to stop by the old town area of Richmond IN. There we found some humorous murals. Check out the one where the firemen are saving a cat. Hilarious!
There’s another one nearby with windows opened, showing what people are doing inside. You might recognize the painting of the sailor kissing the nurse on V-J Day.
At our hotel Ellen quickly got comfortable and couldn’t wait to turn on her iPad to see the NBA California Classic. She is a true Lakers fanatic! She blames Jorge for that.
