Today we stopped to see three big buffalo statues by Al’s Oasis. No, we’re not “buffalo crazy.” It’s just that, well…when do we get a chance to see really big buffalo statues! So here they are.

Since we were after big stuff, we chose to photograph a really big pheasant statue. It is made with railroad spikes and other bolts, nuts and chains. We hope the photo does it justice.

Then there’s the statue of Dignity: the Native American Giantess. She is found standing by a rest area overlooking the Missouri River. It is 50-foot-tall and specifically designed by sculptor Dale Lamphere to honor the cultures of the Lakota and Dakota people. “Dignity represents the courage, perseverance and wisdom of the Lakota and Dakota culture in South Dakota,” Lamphere said. “My hope is that the sculpture might serve as a symbol of respect and promise for the future.”

The Corn Palace is a tourist trap but we included a picture of it. We enjoyed lunch at a restaurant next to it.

What can be said about Wayne Porter and his sculpture park? It is located in Montrose SD. We have a few pictures of this place. It is a hoot and a tribute to creativity and wild imagination. Who thinks of these things? Wayne Porter! By-the-way, that horned statue that Ellen is sitting by is 60 feet tall!
